Psychedelic Integration
In this salon, we challenge the common conflation of psychedelic integration with the structured, post-hoc discussion of a psychedelic experience in therapy—often dictated by the latest Western talk therapy protocols.
If we unpack the etymology, psychedelic means mind manifest, while integration comes from the Latin integrare, meaning to make whole. In reality, psychedelic integration can describe any movement towards wholeness following an experience that revealed previously unknown or unconscious aspects of the psyche.
For example, a massage two years after a silent retreat might allow someone to viscerally consolidate a fleeting non-dual experience from that retreat. The presence of a hallucinogenic substance—or the post-hoc involvement of a therapist—is not a prerequisite for something to be considered psychedelic integration.
This discussion will explore how we better classify post-hoc talk therapy around psychedelic experiences within this broader concept of integration. We will consider:
How talk therapy fits within a wider human endeavour—the pursuit of self-knowledge.
What constitutes best practices in integration.
Clinical experience of what works and what doesn’t.
How to refine integration as a subtle art.
Barriers imposed by mainstream conventional thinking.
We also recognise an emerging bottleneck: as psychedelic use continues to rise—both legally and underground—so too will the demand for high-quality integration. Our discussion will cover:
Timeframes for integration.
Individual vs group integration—their pros, cons, and pitfalls.
The growing need for skilled facilitators in this space.
By deepening our understanding, we aim to elevate the standard of integration, ensuring it remains an expansive, personalised, and meaningful process—not just a narrow therapeutic protocol.
About the Salon
This is an informal, invite-only gathering for like-minded clinicians exploring the intersection of neuroscience, therapy, and altered states of consciousness. We foster deep, candid discussions in a space that values intellectual rigour, humility, and curiosity.
Our goal is to create a supportive community where practitioners can challenge, consult, and collaborate—without pretence or dogma. Conversations often begin with psychedelics but evolve into broader, more enriching discussions.
This isn’t a clinical case conference, nor is it an esoteric free-for-all. We strike a balance between evidence-based practice and the ineffable, between rigorous thought and open-hearted exploration.
